What are Epidural Steroid Injections?
An epidural steroid injection (ESI) is an injection of anti-inflammatory medicine, a steroid, or corticosteroid, into the area around your spinal nerves known as the epidural space. By injecting this strong anti-inflammatory medication into that space, it reduces the inflammation and pain it causes. It is common to see a 50% or greater decrease in pain area after receiving an ESI.
